Digital transformation helps the electricity industry improve service quality and power grid

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) prioritizes digital transformation to attract customers to join digital communication channels and apply technology to shorten job processing time.

With the criteria of digital transformation to attract customers to join digital communication channels and satisfy customers on these communication channels, over the past time, Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC) has applied technology , artificial intelligence (AI) into production and business.

Mr. Ngo Tan Cu, General Director of EVNCPC, said that digital transformation is understood as the transfer of all production and business activities to the network environment. In that process, customers are the center of digital transformation, the electricity industry must apply information technology, smart grids, electronic meters, etc. “EVNCPC has set a basic goal to complete by June 2022. digital transformation,” said Mr. Cu.

According to Mr. Cu, localities such as Da Nang, Khanh Hoa and Kon Tum have achieved 100% of electronic meters. He said that manual operation easily leads to errors, through many levels, but when applying electronic meters, this process is automatically updated, minimizing errors and complaints from customers.

EVNCPC also supports customers to monitor daily electricity usage, monitor the progress of handling electricity service requests and be alerted when there are “abnormalities”. Through this, EVNCPC has detected early 514,551 abnormal increase/decrease in output, 1,036 cases of electrical system failure of customers and assisted in handling before the unfortunate incident occurred.

EVNCPC has also applied technology to shorten the time to process customer requests such as using a chatbot system, an automatic answering machine; Digitize field operations to improve new power supply processes. The index of access to electricity decreased to 1.78 days/work. In 2021, through the survey, the customer satisfaction level increased from 88 to 99%.

In addition, Mr. Do Minh Cuong, Head of IT telecommunications department, said that EVNCPC has applied AI to process 100% of field images and is testing a combination of drones with AI, instead of manual line checking. labour.

Over the past time, EVNCPC has moved 100% of 110kV substations to operate unmanned, moving towards smarter grid operation. EVNCPC has eliminated pen and paper in the phase of grid inspection; The inspection of workers is done quickly on the Mobile App.

At Power Transmission Company 2 (PTC2), digital transformation has been implemented very effectively. PTC2 is a pioneer in the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) applying flying equipment and AI to the operation and monitoring of the power grid.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Dung, Deputy Director of PTC2, shared that PTC2 was assigned a research project to build a power transmission line management system, in which artificial intelligence is applied. The project has been implemented for 21 power transmission teams under the company and is expected to be completed on schedule (6-2022).

Accordingly, PTC2 builds a line management software system to digitize management records/books; application of line checking by drones automatically according to a predetermined schedule; deploying the inspection of the power grid through the assignment/receipt of tasks on the management software.

Through this method, the team leader will monitor the operation process of remote workers. In particular, from June 2021, PTC2 will conduct research and application of AI into the line surveillance camera system (mounted on the top of the pole). This helps automatically identify motor vehicles that violate the grid safety corridor, detect forest fires and automatically send warning messages to the manager.
